THE RIGHT TYPE OF BOXERS

First, let's straighten out a common boxer misconception - boxers refer to two types of underwear, boxer shorts and boxer briefs. At first glance they may look the same, but they're far from it.

Here's a quick crash course on how they differ.

Boxer ShortS

Boxer shorts are the looser fitting underwear that reach roughly halfway down your thigh. While many men prefer to wear boxer shorts for lounging around or sleeping, they're not good for much else seeing how easily they bunch up and can cause skin irritation.

Boxer BrIefs

Boxer briefs also reach roughly halfway down your thigh but are not loose whatsoever. When constructed correctly and made with the right material (as we'll get to in a minute), boxer briefs do not bunch up and are comfortable, stylish, and moisture wicking.

In a nutshell, when choosing properly fitting underwear, always go with boxer briefs.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE

Now that we've established that boxer briefs are the superior choice over boxer shorts, you have to make sure that you get the correct size. When underwear shopping, it's important to note that each underwear brand has a different fit for the same size. In other words, a small with one brand may be a medium for another.

The best way to get around this is to get your right underwear size in centimeters and decide whether you want the underwear to sit at your waist or sit at your hips. Either way, grab a soft measuring tape to get the best measurement.

HOW TO MEASURE WAIST SIZE

Find the thinnest part of your waist and hold the measuring tape at that point in the center of your belly, right above the belly button. Wrap the tape around your waist to meet the beginning and record that number as your waist size for boxer briefs.

HOW TO MEASURE HIP SIZE

Find the widest point of your hips, usually right above your Tom Johnson, and hold the measuring tape at that point. Wrap the tape around your hips to meet the beginning and record that number as your hip size for boxer briefs.

FIVE WAYS TO DETERMINE FIT

Once you find the right boxer briefs and the correct size for your unique body type, you can move on to the five principles of determining how your boxers should fit.

5. THE BEST MATERIALS FOR MEN'S UNDERWEAR

There's an array of underwear materials to choose from, around 20 last time I checked. Out of all of the options, you'll want to find boxer brief materials that are durable, comfortable, and most importantly, wick moisture away.

Pro-Tip: Moisture wicking fabrics comfortably pull moisture (sweat) off of the skin, push it to the outside of the underwear, and quickly evaporate it away. These types of fabrics prevent chafing, rashes, and skin irritation.

Out of the 20+ choices, there are three types of boxer briefs fabric we recommend: cotton, nylon, and micro modal.

Cotton

The most versatile underwear fabric out there, cotton is naturally soft, hypoallergenic, and breathable and is also known for its ability to absorb moisture. Cotton boxer briefs are best for everyday wear, all climates, and careers of all activity levels.

Nylon

Nylon is the best fabric for men looking for boxer briefs that can keep up with their on-the-go lifestyle due to its lightweight and fast-drying properties. Nylon underwear is best for heavy sweaters, hot and humid climates, and physically demanding careers or sports.

SHOP NYLON UNDERWEAR

MICRO MODAL

The softest option of the three, micro modal fabric is the go-to choice for men looking for a luxuriously soft and comfortable fit. Micro modal underwear is best suited for lounging, intimate moments, and sedentary careers.

4. SECURE BUT NOT TIGHT

This may sound a bit confusing, but your underwear should feel secure, but not tight, and the way to tell the difference is by checking your waist, thighs, and junk.

First, when you sit down, the waistband should feel comfortable and not feel restrictive. When you go from sitting to standing, the waistband shouldn't roll up or require any adjusting up or down.

Second, you shouldn't have muscle, skin, or fat jutting out from the bottom of the underwear around your legs. The underwear should feel secure around the legs, not squeezed.

Last but not least, the most important bit; the boyz.

3. MIND THE BOYZ

When it comes to your Tom Johnson, a good boxer brief should support the old chap and accentuate his best accents. The crotch area of the boxer briefs should provide enough space for him to breathe and do his thing while reducing heat but secure enough to not let the pendulum swing out of control.

It's a delicate balance, but all Drawlz boxer briefs have the shape and science down to a T.

2. WIDE WAISTBANDS

The waistband should fit fine so long as you got the correct size, but it's important to note the width of the waistband. Skinny and flimsy waistbands easily roll up and fray causing unbelievable irritation regardless of whether you're wearing the correct size or not; the key here is to find soft, wide waistbands.

The fit of underwear with these types of wide waistbands should always feel comfortable, secure seeing as they don't bunch up or fray as easily. As with perfecting the contour pouch, all Drawlz feature a 2" wide waistband to meet these needs.

1. HOW THEY SHOULD FEEL

Finally we come to how boxer briefs feel on you as you're wearing them, which can be broken down into three key aspects; breathability, dryness, and mobility.

The term 'breathable' refers to how comfortable the Big Guy feels; in other words, your frank and beans shouldn't stick to the legs or be sweating like crazy. Men's underwear with a horizontal fly really helps with this.

'Dryness' refers to the underwear's ability to wick away moisture from the body. Men's underwear should always feel dry or at least not soaked if you're doing something that generates tons of sweat.

Finally, 'mobility' speaks to how well the underwear moves with your body. When you're going through everyday motions or running a marathon, quality boxer briefs should always feel like they move with you and require little to no adjustment.

FAQs

SHOULD YOU SIZE UP OR DOWN IN BOXERS?

If your underwear size falls somewhere between two sizes on a size chart while you're shopping for new underwear, wear boxer briefs that are the size larger. The extra support and space will give you a more comfortable and breathable fit as you wear them.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY BOXERS ARE TOO BIG?

You'll know if your boxers are too big if they bunch up too much, sag around the back, require you to constantly pull them up, or just straight up feel uncomfortable because they're so big.

IS IT BETTER TO WEAR LOOSE OR TIGHT BOXERS?

Neither; you should wear boxer briefs that are secure. Looser boxer shorts easily bunch up and do not provide support while tight boxer briefs require constant adjustment and leads to more sweating.

WHAT SIZE AM I IN MEN’S BOXERS?

To find your size in men's boxers, measure your hip or waist size using a soft tape measure. For a more accurate measurement, record it in centimeters and convert that number to inches.

HOW SHOULD BOXER BRIEFS FIT?

Boxer briefs should fit snug but not tight, you should really only feel them around your waist and thighs. When it comes to your mini-me, men's underwear should support the big guy but not suffocate him either.

To wrap this up, a good pair of boxer briefs with the right fit should be comfortable and breathable, wick away moisture from the body and skin, and require little to no adjustment throughout the day. To make sure that you're not mistaking a bad pair of men's underwear fit for the wrong size, take the time to find your underwear size. It takes less than a minute and can save you a lot of headaches.
