What is Delta-8? New Cannabinoid Explained

The Ultimate Guide to Delta-8

Man, it always seems like there’s a new strain of something coming out of the woodworks. Usually it’s pretty straightforward - but for some reason, it’s hard to find any information on Delta-8.

I tried a Delta-8 gummy the other week thinking it would be like CBD, and let me tell you - it’s not. That knocked me on my ass when all I was trying to do was go to sleep.

I liked it, I just wasn’t expecting what I experienced. It wasn’t like a THC high, and it wasn’t totally different from a CBD experience; it was somewhere in the middle.

So to kick off the Drawlz 420 celebration, I wanted to write a post explaining what Delta-8 is, the history of it, and end with how it makes you feel.

Maybe you’ll be convinced to give it a try after this post.

What is Delta-8?

Delta-8 is a minor cannabinoid found in hemp and cannabis plants.

It’s chemically similar to Delta-9 THC, which is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the "high" associated with marijuana use, but Delta-8 has a slightly different molecular structure than Delta-9, which results in some unique properties and effects.

Delta-8 is kinda like Delta-9, but has a more mild, manageable psychoactive experience. It’s like a more relaxed, clear-headed high that isn’t as intense or anxiety-inducing as Delta-9.

History of Delta-8

As it turns out, Delta-8 isn't exactly a new kid on the block.

Scientists first isolated Delta-8 back in the 1970s, but it didn't gain much attention at the time because its effects were thought to be similar to Delta-9 THC, which was already well-known for its psychoactive properties. In fact, Delta-8 was often overlooked as a minor component of the cannabis plant.

Fast forward to the present day, and Delta-8 is making a comeback. Thanks to advances in extraction techniques and a renewed interest in the benefits of different cannabis compounds, Delta-8 is now being hailed as a unique and potentially beneficial cannabinoid.

Let's be real – anything that can give you a mellow buzz without making you feel like you're floating in outer space is worth exploring.

Despite its recent rise in popularity, Delta-8's legal status is still a bit of a gray area. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp-derived CBD products, which contain less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight, but it did not specifically address Delta-8. This means that the legality of Delta-8 products may vary depending on state laws, so check your state laws before trying.

Effects of Delta-8

Let's talk about the good stuff – the effects of Delta-8. You might be wondering what you can expect when you consume Delta-8, so let's break it down.

Physical effects

Delta-8 is known for its relaxing and calming physical sensations. It can help soothe tension in your muscles and relieve physical discomfort, making it a popular choice for those seeking natural pain relief. Plus, it won't leave you feeling sluggish or sleepy like some other cannabis compounds.

Mental Effects

One of the most unique aspects of Delta-8 is its ability to provide a milder, more manageable high than Delta-9 THC. It can help you feel more relaxed and creative without inducing anxiety or paranoia; think of it as a chill buzz that won't send you into a spiral of overthinking and panic.

Medical benefits

While more research is needed, some studies suggest that Delta-8 may have potential therapeutic benefits. It may also help reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and even stimulate appetite.

Potential risks and side effects

Of course, it's important to be aware of the potential risks and side effects of Delta-8. Consuming too much Delta-8 can lead to drowsiness, dry mouth, and in some cases, feelings of paranoia or anxiety. It's always best to start with a low dose and see how your body reacts before consuming more.

If you're looking for a milder high that’s not overbearing, Delta-8 might be great for you. Just remember that Delta-8's legal status is still a bit of a gray area, so make sure you do your research and stay within the legal boundaries of your state.

And most importantly, consume responsibly. Start with a low dose and see how your body reacts before consuming more. And never, under any circumstances, drive or operate heavy machinery while under the influence of Delta-8 or any other cannabis compounds.
